Past Present Future

Love. Learn. Trust.
Steve and Wendy Thompson

I have been in the beauty industry for 18 years now, spending 9 years working commission and the last 9 being an independent contractor and salon owner with my wife. As an independent I became a member of the OICBA (Ohio Independent Cosmetologist and Barber Association) and later president.

Working with Ohio Legislators, the OICBA created the country's first state cosmetology board seat designated for an independent contractor. I was later board appointed by the Governor Of Ohio. This has been a big honor and I thank all of those who were responsible and have supported me.

Observing national trends I have been able to see how the number of independent contractors (IC), formally known as booth renters, is growing rapidly. Meeting with salon owners and operators from many states, I see all the good that is being done, along with some of the pitfalls. Many operators start off inspired in their business only to find they are bound by four walls.

My future is dedicated to the improvement of the independent while avoiding the pitfalls. MYOWNSALON has taken down the walls and returned stylist to a salon. Our salon has only one door, the front one, open to all. A salon has to be, something more than just yourself...

There is a need for new products, a way to get them and education on them. This is the gap in our industry that needs bridged. Independent contractors will see relationships with manufacturers, distributors and educators strengthen.

Predicting my future I foresee myself surrounded with the best individuals in the industry. Each of us sharing the dream of being the very best we can be.

Every stylist, at sometime or another, has fantasized about owning a business of their own.

You can at MYOWNSALON.
